The Second Phase of LDN Target Setting Programme (LDN TSP) in Georgia was launched at an Inception Workshop held on April 29, 2024, in Tbilisi, Georgia.
The Inception Workshop, co-organized by the host country’s Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, the UNCCD Secretariat, and REC Caucasus, aimed to convene and engage relevant national stakeholders: governmental representatives from different line ministries and agencies, development partners, academia, NGOs, the private sector, farmer organizations, and others.
As one of the 131 countries that participated in the LDN TSP, Georgia successfully set its LDN targets and measures for 2017-2018.
In 2023, Georgia was selected by the UNCCD as one of the 18 champion countries to participate in the second phase of this program (LDN TSP 2.0). After its participation in the global LDN TSP 2.0 capacity-building workshop that took place on 20-22 February 2024 in Doha (Qatar), Georgia initiated its national LDN TSP 2.0 process and the related national stakeholder consultation process with an Inception Workshop scheduled for April 29th, 2024.
During the Inception Workshop, the National Working Group on LDN TSP 2.0 was created, which had productive discussions on how to combat desertification, land degradation, and drought, and to refine the national LDN targets set by the country. These targets include the rehabilitation of degraded lands and the improvement of irrigation and drainage systems in the country.
