Within the frames of the project “Generating Economic and Environmental Benefits from Sustainable Land Management for Vulnerable Rural Communities of Georgia”, on April 10, 2017, in Gori,  at 10:30, in Gori Governor Building Conference Hall, Regional Environmental Centre for Caucasus (RECC) organized inception workshop of the project preparation phase.

The project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), its implementing United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and executed by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia with Regional Environmental Centre for Caucasus (RECC).

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia – Ms. Ekaterine Grigalava, the Head of the Land Resources and Mining Department of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection – Ms. Nino Chikovani, Head of Department of Environmental Policy and International Relations – Ms. Nino Tkhilava, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Georgia – Mr. Giorgi Chkheidze, The Governor of Shida Kartli – Mr. Kakha Samkharadze, the Director of The Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus (RECC) – Ms. Sophiko Akhobadze, Regional Government of Shida Kartli, the representatives of Civil Society organizations and International Projects, the Task Manager of Europe Office and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) – Mr. Ersin Esen and Local Farmers. The representative of German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) – Mr. Walter Engelberg joined a meeting by Skype as well.

The aim of the workshop meeting was to inform stakeholders about the components, methodologies, approaches and expected results of the project.

The purpose of the project is to strengthen the possibilities on the local level for Kakheti and Shida Kartli Municipalities. Within the frames of the project, the pilot projects will be implemented to achieve Land Degradation Neutrality in Kvareli, Sagarejo, Gori and Kareli Municipalities.
